Tearlach has recently completed additional geophysical and geological assessment work on its Foy – Hess nickel, copper, platinum optioned properties on the North Range of the Sudbury Basin.
The Foy and the Hess Offset Dyke systems are the largest and longest of a series of deep fracture zones radiating outwards from and concentrically around the edges of the Sudbury Igneous Complex. These Offset Dykes are believed to have formed at or about the same time as the main Complex. Mining records to date indicate approximately 50% of ore extracted from the Sudbury mines in the past 100 years of continuous production has come from these Offset Dykes, making them significant potential sources of additional mineralization.
Fresh insight into the mineral potential of these Offset Dyke systems and discoveries of new mineralization by Aurora Platinum Corp., (Foy Dyke), Wallbridge (the newly discovered Trill Offset Dyke) Falconbridge (McLennan Dyke), Inco (Worthington & Copper Cliff South Dykes) and FNX (Worthington Dyke).
The Foy and Hess Offset Dykes show characteristics similar to the United Reef (former Nickel Offset Mines) on the Foy Offset Dyke to the south of the Tearlach claims.
With the acquisition by FNX of Aurora (July 1st, 2005) and subsequent FNX / Dynatec joint venture, (July 4th, 2005), FNX / Dynatec now control all of the Foy Dyke (excluding the former Nickel Offset Mine held by United Reef), not controlled by Tearlach.
Work Completed:
The work just finished by Tearlach included fifty kilometers of ground magnetometer surveying on the Venetian and LaForest grids in Botha and Sweeny Townships, essentially completing all ground magnetometer mapping of the 25 kilometers of the Foy and Hess Offset dyke systems and stripping of selected areas of the Hess and Foy Dykes. Two new areas of magnetically anomalous readings discovered during the mapping will be examined to evaluate their significance.
A program of stripping and washing of outcrops previously identified as being anomalous was undertaken, expanding the previous stripping work done in 2003. Ten areas of the Foy and Hess dykes were stripped, washed and geologically mapped. Both the Foy and the Hess dykes display inclusion-bearing quartz diorite, with dyke widths of up to 50 meters and inclusion-bearing zones up to 25 meters wide. Of particular interest has been the exposure, over 700 meters strike length of the Hess Dyke, of sulphide staining, co-incident with three equally spaced EM conductive anomalies. This zone includes the area of sulphides previously sampled and announced (January, 2004). Sulphide staining was also observed on the stripped areas on the Sandcherry and Schkowona grids.
Approximately 60% of the optioned area, (not 40% as previously reported) comprising the 3.4 kilometer Hess Dyke fraction and the southern 15 kilometer portion of the Foy Dyke, including the Banana Lake, Sandcherry Lake and Schkowona grids were covered by an airborne survey using the MegeTEM II system, flown by Furgo Geophysical Systems Ltd. The magnetic and electromagnetic data have been reviewed by an independent consulting geophysicist.
The airborne geophysical data indicates at least seven areas of anomalous EM responses, all co-incident with the magnetically mapped locations of the Offset Dykes.
Several samples were taken from various areas for assay to determine metal ratios which are reported below. The sulphides were not expected to contain high values, but the assay results do indicate ratios of metals that are consistent with metal ratios occurring elsewhere in the Sudbury Igneous Complex.
The convergence of significant widths and strike lengths of inclusion-bearing quartz diorite, electromagnetic conductors and surface sulphide staining all suggest several suitable drill targets for sub-surface geophysical probing.
